Voting for Abortion Rights in Pennsylvania

Right now, abortion rights are controlled by the States.

If you want to vote for abortion rights this election, you need to do more than vote for Kamala.

Pennsylvania Attorney General

Why this position impacts abortion rights:

From Spotlight PA: Attorneys general can’t make or change the state’s laws. They are tasked with defending those laws in court and making decisions about prosecuting people, businesses, and institutions who break them.

Eugene DePasquale: Pro-Choice Champion

From his campaign website: "Eugene is unapologetically pro-choice. When politicians try to limit our reproductive rights - whether access to abortion services, IVF, or contraception - Eugene will be there to defend our rights. He has a 100% rating with Planned Parenthood of PA."

During his time as State Auditor General, DePasquale investigated so-called Crisis Pregnancy Centers, which would later lead to their defunding.

Dave Sunday: Anti-Choice

According to Spotlight PA, he said "that he does not believe the state constitution guarantees a right to abortion access, arguing that decision belongs to the legislature."

Pennsylvania Auditor General

Why this position impacts abortion rights:

This position monitors the spending of public funds. Though it may not seem to be tied directly to abortion rights there is overlap. For example, Eugene DePasquale investigated Crisis Pregnancy Centers during his time as Auditor General.

Malcolm Kenyatta: Pro-Choice Champion

Currently a State Representative, Kenyatta has proven his Pro-Choice record loudly and often. An example of the overlap between finances and abortion rights: he sponsored a bill that would require insurance companies to fully cover abortion services.

You can see his abortion-related voting record on his Choice Tracker profile.

Pennsylvania State Representative and State Senators

Why this position impacts abortion rights:

Our state legislators have the most direct impact on abortion rights of any other elected office. Together, they pass the bills that will either repeal current protections, or add additional hurdles to care.

To protect abortion rights in Pennsylvania, it is essential to vote for Pro-Choice State Legislators: head to our voter guide to learn who is running in your area, and review their record on reproductive rights as a whole.

Choice Tracker: Helping you protect abortion rights all the way down the ballot.

We know that abortion rights are a key issue this election. But voting for a Pro-Choice president is not enough. We must protect our reproductive rights at every angle, and State Legislators currently have THE MOST direct impact. We must hold them accountable.

If you're Pro-Choice, you must pay attention to State Senate and State House elections

The Importance of Voting for Pro-Choice State Legislators

In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landscape of reproductive rights in the United States has changed dramatically. While national figures often dominate headlines, the real battleground for abortion rights has shifted to state lawmakers. These local representatives hold significant power in shaping the laws that affect our rights, making it crucial for voters to pay attention to who they are electing at the state level.

The Power of State Lawmakers

State legislators have been instrumental in both advancing and restricting abortion access across the country. In states like Georgia, Texas, and Florida, we have seen the implementation of strict abortion laws that limit access to reproductive health services. These laws can profoundly impact individuals' ability to make choices about their own bodies. It’s essential to recognize that while federal legislation may provide a framework, state lawmakers wield substantial influence over the specifics of abortion rights and access.

Why Support Pro-Choice Candidates?

To protect abortion rights, it is imperative to support and elect pro-choice state legislators. These candidates are committed to safeguarding reproductive rights and ensuring access to essential health services. Staying informed about local candidates and their positions on abortion is a critical step in this process. Resources like choicetracker.org provide valuable information on where candidates stand on this issue, making it easier for voters to make informed decisions.

The Impact of Your Vote

It’s important to remember that in state elections, the number of voters can be significantly smaller than in federal elections. This means that each vote carries more weight. Your participation in these elections is crucial; voting for pro-choice candidates can directly contribute to the protection of reproductive rights at the state level.

Get Involved and Make Your Voice Heard

As we navigate this new political landscape, staying informed and engaged is more important than ever. Attend local candidate forums, discuss the issues with friends and family, and make a plan to vote. Your voice matters, and together we can work to ensure that the right to choose remains protected.

Let’s stand together to safeguard reproductive rights and ensure that our state legislatures reflect the values we hold dear. Your vote is not just a ballot; it’s a powerful tool for change.

Who do you trust to write North Carolina's abortion laws?

Option 1: A Pro-Choice candidate who is endorsed by both Planned Parenthood and Lillian's List?

Georgia Legislators wanted these deaths.

Women are dying. We found proof that 17 Georgia legislators are perfectly fine with that.

Recent heartbreaking news from Georgia illustrates the real consequences of this dangerous trend. The tragic cases of Candi Miller and Amber Nicole Thurman, reported by ProPublica, should not be a surprise. Candi's death was entirely preventable, yet it was precipitated by a climate created by Georgia legislators who pursued a near-total abortion ban earlier that year. This legislation not only imposed draconian penalties, including a potential 10-year prison sentence for violators, but also ignored the health and safety of women like Candi, leaving them vulnerable in critical situations.

The Georgia Legislature knew what it was doing.

Our Georgia research team uncovered documents showing that creating this environment was not an accident, but intentional. In signed documents gathered by Georgia Life Alliance, 17 Georgia legislators explicitly stated that there should be no exceptions to abortion bans—even in cases where the life of the mother is at risk.

Furthermore, 52 legislators have signed a pledge asserting that they consider an embryo or fetus to have the same rights as a person, further complicating the issue and exacerbating the risks to maternal health.

We deserve to know where our legislators stand.

Our research team in Georgia is dedicated to uncovering the true positions of these candidates, even when they attempt to hide behind vague language. We believe that voters deserve to know where their local candidates stand on issues of reproductive rights. By clarifying these positions, we aim to empower constituents to make informed decisions at the ballot box.

The stakes have never been higher. The work we do is not just about politics; it's about saving lives. By electing pro-choice legislators, we can restore reproductive rights and prevent further tragedies like Candi’s. The future of reproductive health in Georgia—and across the country—depends on the choices we make today.

As citizens, we must demand transparency from our elected officials and hold them accountable for their positions on critical issues. It's time to stand up for the rights of women and ensure that no one else has to suffer the consequences of harmful legislation. Together, we can create a future where reproductive health is protected and where every woman's life is valued.

Pennsylvania Pro-Choice Voter Guide: Launched!

Pennsylvania, we're back!

Two years ago, we launched Choice Tracker to help Pennsylvanians get clear, unbiased information on their legislators’ positions regarding reproductive rights. With a focus on SB 106, we helped voters fact-check their representatives and research candidates for the first time in our home state. Now, we are excited to announce our return, offering an even more comprehensive and updated voter guide.

The Pennsylvania Legislative Voter Guide is now live at choicetracker.org/PA, and it’s the ultimate tool to help you determine where your State House and Senate candidates stand on abortion rights.

Florida Primaries are on August 20

Does your legislator deserve to stay in office?

As Floridians, we have an important opportunity coming up on Tuesday, August 20: the Florida Primary Elections. These elections are more than just a formality. They shape the direction of our state for the future, and your vote truly matters. If you haven’t done so already, make sure you have a voting plan in place for Tuesday!

Why your vote in the primaries is crucial

While the general elections get most of the attention, primaries are where candidates get chosen, and in some areas, they will go on to win in November without much opposition.

Make sure you pay attention to State Legislators

This is especially true when it comes to issues that matter deeply to us, like abortion rights. Did you know that Florida's current State Senators and State Representatives are responsible for passing the state's recent abortion ban? It’s important to check where your current legislators stand before you decide to stick with the status quo.

Stay informed with Choice Tracker

Before heading to the polls, check who represents you in the state legislature and what their position is on key issues. Are they working to protect your rights, or are they actively supporting legislation that goes against your values? One helpful resource to use is choicetracker.org/FL, which allows you to see if your current legislators support abortion rights. Knowing this information can help you make informed decisions about whether they deserve your vote.

What’s Next?

As soon as the primaries wrap up, there will be even more to consider for the general election. Right after the primary elections, we’ll be tracking all the candidates running for office in November, allowing you to compare their positions and choose who best represents your values and needs.

Stay informed, get ready, and we’ll see you at the polls!
